is a refreshing bright middle note. Due to its methyl salicylate content, this small evergreen gives us one of the best topical oils for pain. This this oil has an aspirin like effect on the muscle skeletal system. Wintergreen can help address pain accompanied with inflammation. The essential oil of Wintergreen, being made up almost exclusively of methyl salicylate, a precursor to common aspirin; Wintergreen should NOT be used by people who are allergic to aspirin. Further, Wintergreen should NEVER be ingested, and only used topically in dilutions of 25% or less to limit the transdermal absorption to safe levels. The salicylates pass through the skin, entering the tissues to inhibit the formation of prostaglandins, thereby reducing inflammation and pain. Wintergreen, in the past has also been used for respiratory conditions but has its best use for painful muscle-skeletal conditions.
